What kind of music do You want to play?

It is hard to play rock and roll on a classical guitar.

If you just want to strum a few chords and accompany yourself while you sing at home, get an acoustic guitar.

If you want to play guitar in church, get an acoustic electric guitar.

If you want to play in a rock band get an electric guitar.

In general the electric is easier to play and the most versatile. But you will also need an amplifier.

What is your budget?

The biggest mistake beginners make is to get a cheap guitar. They think that IF they get good THEN they will get a good guitar.

The cheap guitar is hard on the fingers. It does not want to stay in tune. It sounds bad and is not any fun to play.
