STUDENT NEWSLETTER  10 July 2006     Joe Pacciano, C.G.P. aka JoeTheGuitarman

PAST STUDENT NEWSLETTERS

Greetings!    I hope this letter finds you all happy,  cool,  and healthy.

I have been working hard in the recording studio.  So far 35 songs with multiple versions of each.  Hopefully we can cull out a cd or two.  I will keep you posted.

Speaking of cds....Bass student turned guitar student Chad and his band THE BURGUNDY BAND just came out with their THIRD cd.  Oh yeah,  and they just graduated high school last month.  Not many folks have three cds of original music out on cd before graduation.  Know many?  Kevin T. on lead guitar was a student of mine back when he was about 11 years old.  Now he is writing and singing his own songs and starts college next month.  You don't know how proud I am of these guys.  You could not ask for better kids.  Parents should be very proud.

For many years I have been preaching that the future of music is on the Internet.  Why carry around a bunch of cds, when you can just load the sound file onto your Ipod?  That way you don't have to buy the bad songs!  But the good news for musicians is the many outlets to sell their music.  From XM radio, to MP3.com to CDBaby.com, and many more there is really unlimited possibilities out there.  You would never have to leave your house!  Record on your computer, and market on the Internet.

Recording should be every musicians priority.  Not only does it make you a MUCH better musician, but if you get something good recorded you will have it for ever.  If it is original, you can make money with it forever.

Original music is king.  Try and write songs!  One song and you could be set financially for life.  I believe every musician has one hit song in them.    It only takes one.

Writing songs is more complicated than most imagine.  Many decisions have to be made.  Temp speed, key, rhythm style, chord progression, melody, lyrics, verse/chorus format, solo,  sound of each instrument and how it is placed in the mix, effects, pan left or right or center,  edit mistakes, and when to stop making changes and when to call it a done song.

Recording on a computer only requires a way to plug your guitar and microphone into the computer.  A $50 gadget will accomplish this.  Then a recording program that can cost as low as $150 or as much as $5,000.  Good ones are about $500.  And you are in the recording business.  Fun stuff.

The search for the perfect tone never ends.  But after years of consideration, trial and error this is my rig more or less.  It is not easy to find the original vintage stuff anymore, so this is the new equivalent.

Every bit of my new gear comes from MusiciansFriend.com  for the past six years.  Best prices,  selection,  and return policy there is. AND they bring it to your door!   If you click thru to MUSICIANS FRIEND .com from this web site to buy something,  I get an advertising credit and it does not cost you a penny extra!  Musicians Friend is where I get all my new gear.  Click on the bar below to go there.  If the bar does not appear on your browser go here and click on the MusiciansFriend bar at bottom of that page.
