STUDENT NEWSLETTER 16 April
2006
Greetings! I hope this letter finds you all happy, and healthy. Seven years ago yesterday my life was changed by a student. This is a story of how music made my life better in one day. I rarely play night clubs anymore because they operate too late at night for me. Also I can not stand smoke. But one night about ten years ago I decided to go to a little dive down the street from me to see a friend play with his band. They got me up to play a couple of tunes and when I finished a guy comes up and says he would like to start guitar lessons with me as soon as possible. Darren took two hours per week for two and a half years. A serious student that bought a 1962 Gibson ES 355 and a REAL 1959 Fender Bassman amp! Today the guitar and amp are worth $25,000! Darren has played with some of the biggest names in blues in the DFW area. He knows EVERYONE! On 14 April 1999 Darren patiently convinced me to sell my guitar lessons on the Internet. I did not see the point and did not believe it would be worth the trouble, but Darren took over an hour to convince me otherwise. I never even heard of Ebay! He got me hooked up and within 14 minutes I had a sale. Within 30 days I had doubled my income. Within 6 months I had sold my lessons to at least one person in all 50 States and around the world! The success of JoeTheGuitarman.com allowed me to retire at 49. THANKS DARREN! Music has been very good to me in many ways. Just the cool people I have met that have changed my life alone is amazing.
Congrats to bass student Chad again for landing the gig at The Garland Opry on Saturday nights. Chad also performs with The First Edition at his high school in Garland and with his own band THE BURGUNDY BAND. Chad has three cds of original music and a college scholarship awaiting him when he graduates this year. Way to go Chad! The big Dallas guitar show is coming up this month on April 21 thru 23 at Market Hall in Dallas. This is the biggest guitar show in the world that is also a music festival with live bands performing around the clock. Past Guitar Student Dave K. and his band Little B and The Fat Cats will be on the big stage 3:50pm to 4:30pm. On Saturday my friend and long time amp guru Craig Wallace is playing the center stage at 12:25pm. Check out Craig's new cd at his website: DallasBluesGuitar.com. It is fun to submerse into the guitar culture for a day. A good chance to see VERY expensive guitars and run into famous guitar players. Bring your camera! Always a lot of fun! Not a great place to buy guitars for many reasons. Trust me. I have bought every bit of my new gear from MusiciansFriend.com for the past five years. Best prices, selection, and return policy there is. AND they bring it to your door! If you click thru to MUSICIANS FRIEND .com from this web site to buy something, I get an advertising credit and it does not cost you a penny extra! Musicians Friend is where I get all my new gear. Click on the bar below to go there.
Always Stay Tuned. A lot is going on around here!
