STUDENT NEWSLETTER 16 April
2007
I hope this letter finds you all happy, and healthy. I have been saying it for ten years. The future of music is here now. You can record your songs at home and market them on the Internet. Just about the most focused thing you could do with your music. I learned more about playing guitar working in the recording studio than anything else I have done. You quickly learn what will fly and what will die cause the tape don't lie. You can get a all in one 16 track recorder now for under $500. MUCH better quality than what the Beatles used to record Abby Road. It is not complicated at all. Sting, Aerosmith, James Taylor, Van Halen, and many more prefer recording at home. Many benefits. Private, comfortable, convenient, available anytime, free recording time, as many takes as you want....Really is perfect. I record most of my products in my home studio. I believe it to be my favorite place on earth. Makes your music permanent. You can sell it. So many options on the Internet for new musicians. We are very lucky to live in this time. Fun! Check it out! Student David Hartwig just got a custom made guitar made just for him from Mossman Guitars in Sulphur Springs Texas. It is a Skidboot Edition! FREE!!!
David has been on Letterman, Leno, Oprah, 8 Country Reporter, AIG commercials, Texas Lotto commercials on tv and radio. He also sings at his church every Sunday. A natural star. Nice guitar David. Mention me to your friends at Mossman Guitars! HA! Not kidding.
Bass student Chris and his band are hosting
a jam in Richardson. This jam coincides with the Dallas Guitar Show and will be
on Saturday April 21. 8:30 to 12:30pm. So much going on this year! Here on Monday from Saint Paul, Minnesota a very nice 1985 Gibson Les Paul Custom in super rare Ferrari Red with Gibson "crank tuners".
Just in from Denver, CO is a first year 1982 USA Fender Fullerton Precision Bass in very rare Candy Apple Red OVER two tone sunburst! A natural relic. VOO94XX! Cool as it gets! HEY! That ain't right! Just in from Canada is a very suspect 1983 USA Gibson SG in very rare Pelham Blue. Or is it Inverness Green? Completely covered in finish checking. You all know how much I like that! Well it got here and smelled like Krylon spray paint. Numerous runs, blobs, and over spray on the plastic parts! The edges of the frets were so sharp you could cut yourself playing this guitar. The case was useless. The guitar had to be sent back! Not all that glitters is gold on Ebay! Live and learn. Caveat Emptor!
The search for the perfect tone never ends. But after years of consideration, trial and error this is my rig more or less. It is not easy to find the original vintage stuff anymore, so this is the new equivalent. Every bit of my new gear comes from MusiciansFriend.com for the past seven years. Best prices, selection, and return policy there is. AND they bring it to your door! If you click thru to MUSICIANS FRIEND .com from this web site to buy something, I get an advertising credit and it does not cost you a penny extra! Musicians Friend is where I get all my new gear. Click on the bar below to go there. If the bar does not appear on your browser go here and click on the MusiciansFriend bar at bottom of that page.
Always Stay Tuned. A lot is going on around here!
