STUDENT NEWSLETTER 3 June 2008 Hi Everybody! Hope you are all doing well. Summertime is coming and gas is too expensive to go anywhere. Good time to play guitar inside in the cool a/c! I hope you all are pushing yourselves a little to get better. Try different styles of music than the one you play most now. Get a song book and plow through a "wrote memorization" song that might take all summer to learn at one bar of TAB per day. Fun stuff! You might surprise yourself! There are two kinds of songs: Hum & Strum and Wrote memorization. Most songs are 145 hum and strum. Other songs like Blackbird, Classical Gas, or Vincent have to be learned with TAB. One bar at a time. Very time consuming. Most of these type songs take me six months or longer to learn. Another year to smooth out and polish. But they are my best songs as far as "guitar songs" go. In the same time I can also learn 50 hum and strum tunes. The details the brain will hold is amazing. You can do anything anyone else can do when you practice it as much as they did. Remember DO NOT leave your guitar in a hot car. It will wilt like a Chihuahua puppy! Heat is used to unglue guitars in the shop. The heat of a 40w bulb is used to "unglue" a joint on a guitar. You have to ask yourself; what is hotter? The 40w light bulb or a trunk of a car in Texas in the summertime in the sun out in a parking lot? Even worse than cold on a guitar. Heat will mess them up. Not to mention 30% of all guitar theft involves a guitar left in the car. Also remember that 46.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot. Just in from Virginia is a 100% original Kalamazoo made 1972 Gibson SG with factory Grover tuners and Bigsby style Gibson tremolo! Nice condition for a 36 year old rocking work horse. Just in from Michigan is a very rare Telecaster. 10 May 1982 vintage '52 reissue. Made at the old Fullerton factory. With original certificate of authenticity.
As you all know; my search for the perfect tone never ends. But after years of consideration, trial and error this is my rig more or less. It is not easy to find the original vintage stuff anymore, so this is the new equivalent. Every bit of my new gear comes from MusiciansFriend.com or Guitar Center for the past eight years.
