STUDENT NEWSLETTER 31 May 2009     Joe Pacciano, C.G.P. aka JoeTheGuitarman

PAST STUDENT NEWSLETTERS

I hope this letter finds you all happy, healthy,  and enjoying the beautiful spring time.

The future of music is for artists to write,  record,  register, and sell original music from home on line.   If you are reading this you have a computer.  That is all it takes.    Get a recording program and an interface so that you can plug in a microphone or guitar.  The technology is here for you to not only have fun but make some do re me.

Check out former student: Tom Cheatham.  He said that if not for my encouragement he would not have ever done this.   So now I am telling you all the same thing.  Do it.   Why not?   You don't have to quit your job or go out and play in bars if you don't want to.  Do your music at home and sell to the world via Internet.

I think everyone has at least one great song in them.  Maybe many great songs.  You never know until you try.  Most songs are 1 4 5.   So just write some lyrics to a 145 chord progression.  that is what MOST of the biggest songs are.

Now selling online is very easy.   You can sell your songs on iTunes USA, Canada, Australia, European Union, and Japan.  They can be sold on Amazon, Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic,  IMVU,  Lala,  Shockhound,  Amie Street in the form of downloads so that you don't have to print any cds!   People can download your songs to their Ipods for a fee that you get!   Free money.   A money tree.   Check out Tunecore.com .  Only $9.99 per song.  They can design the artwork,  issue a UPC bar code,  even print short run hard copies of your cd for you.   You can be selling on Amazon,  Best Buy,  or/and your local music stores.

Indie is in.   Independent artists.

That beats playing in biker bars for $50 any day.   Record and let the world hear your songs.   You can never tell who might hear them and what might happen.   Record labels search for new artists on the Internet now.   If you don't have a cd, professional promotional materials, and a yourname.com website then you must not be very serious.  Check out HOW TO MARKET THE BAND

I am releasing two of my originals to the world.   Blue Noodle #3,  and Guitar Lover will be released on 4 July 2009.  Both will be available on iTunes,  Amazon,  Rhapsody,  Napster,  eMusic,  IMVU,  Lala,  Shockhound, and Amie Street.  Both were recorded here and mastered at The Kitchen Studios in Dallas.  Here are the YouTube videos of both songs.

Blue Noodle #3

Blue Noodle #3 is a southern rock blues guitar solo instrumental I wrote.   Noodle refers to the solo.   Jimmy Rodgers named his songs; Blue Yodel #? when he could not come up with a better name.  Blue Yodel #8 is better known as T For Texas.  12 bar blues in A.

Guitar Lover

This is one of my original compositions called Guitar Lover.  Instrumental country surf rock guitar song tribute to my favorite guitar instrumental songs of all time.   Fun and easy to play songs like Pipe Line,  Walk Don't Run,  Wildwood Flower,  Under The Double Eagle,  and Bull Durham that we all grew up listening to.  This song is also very simple.   The only chords are E C7 and B7.    I hope you get a kick out of it.

In an effort to go green I am once again offering on line guitar lessons.   I tried this a few years ago but the technology was not right yet.   Today the quality depends on your Internet connection speed.   If you have a web cam and and IM service like Google's Gmail (free) we can do our lessons on line.  No long distance fees.   Lessons will be scheduled like a regular 'in person' lesson.  It is a live lesson so be prepared to ask questions.  For more information go to ON LINE LESSONS

New feature on the newsletter!  Videos of the great guitar players.   Today is a great video of the great Doc Watson playing Deep River Blues.  This style is commonly known as "Travis picking", named after Merle Travis.  Clean and pure.  Enjoy.
