STUDENT NEWSLETTER 4 September 2007      Joe Pacciano, C.G.P. aka JoeTheGuitarman

PAST STUDENT NEWSLETTERS

I hope this letter finds you all happy,  healthy,  cool,  and in tune.

School started and less than four months till Christmas!  Encourage someone you love to play music.  If they start now they will be playing Christmas songs by Christmas.

Student Craig S. just got back from Chicago.  He and his son went to Kingston Mines (well known Blues joint in Chicago) and got to see super guitar player Eddie Vann Shaw Jr.  play his custom made 25 string guitar.  The top neck of the guitar is a 12 string played like a six string.  The six strings are in courses of two very close together.  The middle neck is a 7 string.  Also played like a six string but with an additional low B string.  The bottom neck is regular six string.  Can you imagine tuning this or restringing it?

Still hard to beat Rick Neilson of Cheap Trick and his collection of 'one of' guitars.  Including his 36 string five neck guitar and a Hamer custom made guitar that looks like him with guitar necks for legs.  Cool looking, but neither looks comfortable to play.

Guitars are a great investment.  Every year there are more guitar players that want the older guitars.  Every year some guitars get destroyed, altered, stolen, or customized resulting in the loss of value.  During natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina not only was there a human and pet tragedy,  it was also bad for guitars.  Check out this once fantastic 1971 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe.  Before the flood it was worth $4,000.  Now....

 Pretty sad, huh?

Speaking of old and worn out....my new portrait:

"Just don't ever get rid of the "red shirt guy" at the top of the page. He looks so young
and cheerful."   - P. Hartwig,  August 25, 2007  9:47 am

"I don't believe I have seen that particular Bush T-shirt.? I can't tell whether is
it for or against Bush."  - S. Livingston 25 August, 2007 4:40 pm

"Very hairy. Looks like the guy in the Geico ad." - T. Watson,   August 25, 2007 8:09 pm

Thank you all very much.  Your constructive, polite, and restrained critiques are somewhat appreciated.

Just in from Georgia is a 99% original 1972 Gibson SG!  Excellent condition.

The search for the perfect tone never ends.  But after years of consideration, trial and error this is my rig more or less.  It is not easy to find the original vintage stuff anymore, so this is the new equivalent.

Every bit of my new gear comes from MusiciansFriend.com or Guitar Center for the past eight years.  Best prices,  selection,  and return policy there is. AND they bring it to your door!   If you click thru to MUSICIANS FRIEND .com or Guitar Center.com from this web site to buy something,  I get an advertising credit and it does not cost you a penny extra!  Musicians Friend and Guitar Center is where I get all my new gear.  Click on the link below to go there.  If the link does not appear on your browser go here and click on the MusiciansFriend or Guitar Center link at bottom of that page.
