STUDENT NEWSLETTER 5 June 2007         Joe Pacciano, C.G.P. aka JoeTheGuitarman

PAST STUDENT NEWSLETTERS

I hope this letter finds you all happy,  healthy,  and having as good of a time playing guitar as this guy.  Do you know who he is?

Guitar Shorty playing guitar on his head. Shorty married Jimi Hendrix's sister.

Now THAT is showmanship!   Please do not try this at home!

Speaking of having fun;  check out Dave K. and the Fat Cats Band www.TheFatCatsBand.com in McKinney at www.poppys-gardencafe.com Saturday 9 June from 7:15 to 10:45.  Ask Dave to bust a guitar for you!  Then stand back!

For some reason guitar players are compelled to "customize" their guitar.  This contributes to the escalating values because every year there are less and less of these guitars that have not been stolen, destroyed, or "customized".  It is never a good idea to make a permanent change in a vintage guitar.  In my years I have seen some crazy stuff but the following takes the cake.

WARNING!!  Do not try and convert your very rare $50,000 1953 Gold Top Gibson Les Paul into a banjo!

This is a real deal that is currently on Ebay.  Go to the link below for details.

I enjoy hearing from past students and getting an update as to their musical progress.  Last week I heard from former Student Of The Month Matt B.  Check out their video on Utube of their last song of the set at The Door in Dallas Texas.

Speaking of fun...man I love Gibson guitars.  It is hard to say which electric Gibson I like better.  The ES 335?  The Les Paul?  The Les Paul CustomLes Paul Deluxe? My favorites are the  SGs.  All the benefits of a Les Paul at half the weight!

On the way from Florida is a 1984 USA Gibson SG Deluxe in custom color Ebony Black with the rare side input.

Just in from Hollywood is a 100% original 1972 Les Paul Deluxe with factory Grover tuners in like new condition!  I LOVE this guitar.  Best I have ever had.  (shut up)

1970-1972 Les Paul Deluxe with factory Grover Tuners

Not to be confused with the one just in from Florida that is a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe with the mini humbuckers.    Plays and sounds like a dream!  Seems to have a dead bridge pickup.  The neck pick up is the best I have ever heard.  Have located and procured a period correct bridge pickup.  I will have the original rewound.

Here last week from California is an early 1974 USA Gibson (made in Kalamazoo, MI) SG Custom with three T Top humbuckers and ebony fret board.  This is not a reissue but the real deal.  Just think of the rock history this guitar has seen in the last 33 years!  Now THAT is a guitar right there.

SUPER 1974 (or earlier) Gibson SG Custom

Just in from Canada is a very special 1986 USA Gibson SG.  Celebrity played by Kelly Jones who is the  front man for Stereophonics.  Top of the line professional guitar and case.  Crunchy rock machine.  Rare side input model.

1986 SG Standard Gibson with rare side input. Celebrity owned.  Kelly Jones front man for The Stereophonics playing this SG.

Of course I still love 1988 USA Fender vintage '57 reissue Stratocasters in custom colors like this one:

Fender Custom Shop eat your hearts out.  This is a real honestly worn rock, country, blues machine. On the way here from Ohio.

The search for the perfect tone never ends.  But after years of consideration, trial and error this is my rig more or less.  It is not easy to find the original vintage stuff anymore, so this is the new equivalent.

Every bit of my new gear comes from MusiciansFriend.com  for the past seven years.  Best prices,  selection,  and return policy there is. AND they bring it to your door!   If you click thru to MUSICIANS FRIEND .com from this web site to buy something,  I get an advertising credit and it does not cost you a penny extra!  Musicians Friend is where I get all my new gear.  Click on the bar below to go there.  If the bar does not appear on your browser go here and click on the MusiciansFriend bar at bottom of that page.
