PAST STUDENT NEWSLETTERS

Greetings!    I hope this letter finds you all happy,  and healthy.

Seems like everyone had a good time at the guitar show last week end.  Few heeded my warnings and bought guitars anyway.  It was pretty hard to pass up a Paul Reed Smith signed by PAUL REED SMITH!  There were many close calls too!  One student commented that there seemed to be more quality amps at this show.  Sometimes we forget that the amp is as important as the guitar.  Some amps just amplify.  Others are lush tone machines that make everything sound beautiful.  Not just loud.  For years I have said that most people get way too much amp for their application.  Yeah a Fender Twin Reverb is a lot of amp for the money.  Too bad they were designed to be played at Texas Stadium and not your living room.  Also since all the cool effects like delay and stereo chorus are in stereo you would be MUCH better off with two small amps than one huge amp.  Rather than the Twin get the Princeton Reverb or Deluxe Reverb if you want the top of the mountain.  There are also some nice "boutique" amps or custom made copies of old Fender amps that are very nice and under $1,000.

The search for the perfect tone never ends.  But after years of consideration, trial and error this is my rig more or less.  It is not easy to find the original vintage stuff anymore, so this is the new equivalent.

Also by popular request a nice EASY slow song.  Blue Bayou by Roy Orbison.

I have bought every bit of my new gear from MusiciansFriend.com  for the past six years.  Best prices,  selection,  and return policy there is.
