STUDENT NEWSLETTER 9 April
2007
I hope this letter finds you all happy, and healthy. Hoppy Easter! Many students are having guitar troubles like frets buzzing and such recently. Remember that since the guitar is made of wood it is subject to humidity big time. The two times of year that the problems are the biggest is when you go from air conditioning to heat in the fall and furnace to air conditioning in the spring. Now the humidity levels are high with spring rain. The guitar has been sitting in a warm heated very dry environment for the past six months. It is absorbing moisture like a sponge. The wood swells and the action is changed. Sometimes for the better I might add. The problem can be adjusted with the truss rod. Don't do this yourself! Let an expert do it for you. Don't worry. Happens every year. Not a big deal. Speaking of big deals... Bass student Chris and his band are hosting
a jam in Richardson. This jam coincides with the Dallas Guitar Show and will be
on Saturday April 21. 8:30 to 12:30pm. So much going on this year! On the way here from Saint Paul, Minnesota a very nice 1985 Gibson Les Paul Custom in super rare Ferrari Red with Gibson "crank tuners". Also on the way from Denver, CO is a first year 1982 USA Fender Fullerton Precision Bass in very rare Candy Apple Red! A natural relic. VOO94XX! Cool as it gets! HEY! That ain't right! Just in from Canada is a very suspect 1983 USA Gibson SG in very rare Pelham Blue. Or is it Inverness Green? Completely covered in finish checking. You all know how much I like that! Well it got here and smelled like Krylon spray paint. Numerous runs, blobs, and over spray on the plastic parts! The edges of the frets were so sharp you could cut yourself playing this guitar. The case was useless. The guitar had to be sent back! Not all that glitters is gold on Ebay! Live and learn. Caveat Emptor!
The search for the perfect tone never ends. But after years of consideration, trial and error this is my rig more or less. It is not easy to find the original vintage stuff anymore, so this is the new equivalent. Every bit of my new gear comes from MusiciansFriend.com for the past seven years. Best prices, selection, and return policy there is. AND they bring it to your door! If you click thru to MUSICIANS FRIEND .com from this web site to buy something, I get an advertising credit and it does not cost you a penny extra! Musicians Friend is where I get all my new gear. Click on the bar below to go there. If the bar does not appear on your browser go here and click on the MusiciansFriend bar at bottom of that page.
Always Stay Tuned. A lot is going on around here!
